Corporations Going Green? (LINK)

EVERYONE is going green, even intemet mapping site Whereis.com with a new campaign called GreenRoad and its plan is to make car trips more environmentally friendly.
It works like this: anyone planning a car journey need only register with www.thegreenroad.com.au before August 6. The website takes the trip details, estimates the amount of carbon emissions from the journey and Whereis, in partnership with GreenFleet, offsets the carbon output by planting the appropriate number of trees in native forests.
By offsetting the carbon emissions of each car by up to 200 kilometres of travel Whereis expects its GreenRoad campaign to be responsible for the planting of some 17,700 trees to offset around 4760 tonnes of carbon.
GreenFleet spokesman Duncan Ridge says 200 kilometres of driving each week produces some three tonnes of greenhouse gases annually.
Whereis commercial manager Fred Curtis says the GreenRoad campaign aims to demystify carbon offsetting.
So the question on everyones lips is whether this will be a new trend or not. Are companies starting to understand that we care about the environment and actually catering to that need? Or is this just a flash in the pan? Only time will tell...
