From London to Sydney and I'm taking the bus!
November 7th 2007 02:59
A GROUP of 38 adventurers with £3750 ($A9000) to spare have recently boarded the inaugural London-to-Sydney bus service, which will wind its way through Gallipoli, Delhi and Bangkok before arriving in Sydney before Christmas.
OzBus is the brainchild of 38-year-old English entrepreneur Mark Creasey, who backpacked around Australia in his 20s. He wanted to return home overland, but found the route too difficult, with communist China, Laos and Vietnam closed to tourists.
For the greater part of the journey travellers will be camping (both campsites and bush) however when in major cities or in areas where there are adverse climatic conditions they will stay in small hotels and guest houses located near town centres.
This alternative to air travel is more environmentally friendly and produces far less carbon emisions then the 24 hour flight. However, it does take a lengthy 130 days so save up your annual leave.
