The Extinction of the Great Barrier Reef
August 17th 2009 19:13
The Great Barrier Reef used to be one of the most magestic sights on Earth. Certainly created by the hand of an artist, the reef was vibrantly colored and the home to hundreds of thousands of species. Due to the effect of global warming and the increase in water temperatures, the Great Barrier Reef has started to lose its color. But that is not where the threat ends.
The Great Barrier Reef will be extinct in just 20 years. This ocean monument has been around for more years than many families have been alive. The reef is one of the wonders of the world and thanks to the warming of the Earth, due in part to humans, this living body is going to perish.
When the Great Barrier Reef becomes extinct, the wild life that live within the reef and the area around the reef will either need to adapt to a new ocean environment or perish with the reef.

I am however pretty optimistic about our ability to realize the problems of climate change in time to stop total destruction. We have to continue writing about it to raise awareness. Its time we all took responsibility for our actions.
