Home renovation is essential as it not only makes your home more beautiful but it also increases its life besides increasing its market value. Moreover, it affords the chance to make necessary changes to the home in tune with the changing needs of the family. However, home renovation should only be carried out, keeping in view the effect of the remodeling work on the surrounding environment and in synchronization with the general architectural trend in the neighborhood. Moreover, the materials used for the renovation work should be environment friendly.

Encourage Use Of Environment Friendly Materials For Home Renovation

If you are not aware of where to get environment friendly material, you can go online and find out about those companies that provide green materials or products made from green materials. Even your local construction supply store will be able to give information regarding such companies. Basically, these products should not be chemically treated and their harvest or production should be in an environment friendly manner.

Green products use paints that do not have volatile organic compounds and insulation that is made from recycled items such as bamboo, cork or cotton. One of the most common and widely used materials for home renovation is wood and care needs to be taken to minimize tree-felling. You should only use products made from wood that are certified to be safe for usage by Forest Stewardship counsel.

Kitchen counters and other household items should preferably be made with recycled goods like paper, plastics and some special types of wood. Besides being environment friendly, green materials need less maintenance than other construction materials and last longer. Its not easy to find eco-friendly material for home renovation and as such youll need to do thorough research either on the Internet or by inquiring through the merchants and building materials supply companies. This search might test your patience but the outcome will certainly please you.

Other Avenues Of Making Your Home Environment Friendly

Besides using green materials you can consider the use of other methods for creating an environment friendly atmosphere. Your home renovation can include skylights that help sunlight to pervade your room rather than using electrical energy which is again a big drain on resources. Incorporating solar panels in your roof can provide free energy for various purposes in en eco-friendly manner besides cutting down on your power bills. In view of the damaging effects that global warming is producing in our lives, it is essential that we turn to green materials for our construction and home renovation needs.

We should also use natural insulation and energy-efficient wood for replacing our existing windows. Recycled glass can be used for flooring and dual-paned glass for windows in order to make your house more environment-friendly.

Go Canada! Go Canada!

June 7th 2009 03:04
When it comes to helping out the environment, Canada is beating the tail off of the United States. Ladies and Gentlemen - Canada has an eco-friendly community that collects solar energy and heats their homes with that energy.

Solar Powered Communities are Here

This solar powered community has yet to completely weed off of electrical energy but their carbon footprint is far less invasive on the Earth than many of the communities in the United States.

What Makes the United States Different?

In my opinion it is money. The United States is so trapped up in money that the upfront cost of a solar powered community is something that is seen as an expensive rather than a savings in the long run.

If the United States would follow in the footsteps of the Canadian solar powered community, the world would be a happier place and the Earth would be damaged less every day.

The Earth Loves Eco-Friendly
The Earth Loves Eco-Friendly

Today, the world talks of protecting the environment for future generations, protection of the flora and fauna and so on. A firm step taken in that direction is the building of Eco friendly homes. In fact, the step has now become a strong movement with more and more people taking to eco friendly homes and building them in an effort to contribute to the green revolution. In their effort to be more eco friendly, not only homes but fabric, vehicles, lighting, heating, and every thing else has changed or is in the process of changing with the sole aim of protecting our environment, and providing a pollution free planet to the coming generations.

Today, in keeping with the ‘go green’ times, builders promote their products with the tag ‘eco friendly’. By eco friendly homes, they mean that they build homes that are ecologically friendly and also less expensive and least harmful as the materials used in the construction do not cause any pollution. Installing all the appliances that are eco friendly within the interiors of your home helps further in preserving ecology. Appliances like the Solar panels for electrical as well as heating power, and energy efficient and water saving appliances all go a long way in making your home truly eco friendly. So having eco friendly homes helps you to not only live a healthy life but also maintain a savings account right at home by saving up on your bills and more importantly resources.

Big Respect to Madam Pele

November 6th 2006 17:39
We are on Vacation on the big island of Hawaii, and it is so magnificent. It has the only volcano that is still erupting. We walked out to see the lava flows yesterday night in the full moon, So Awesome! We were about 2 miles from the glowing lava, we could see it on the hill coming down and going into the ocean. It was such an amazing experience to see new earth being formed right in front of our eyes! How humbling it is to see what happened millions of years ago, still happening in this moment.
What a new respect I have for Mother Earth, seeing her in action like that. Standing in view of her fiery, passionate energy, I am even more appalled at Man's arrogance in destroying nature without a second thought.
Here on the Islands, we call the goddess of the volcano, Madam Pele. There are many myths and legends told about her. Here on the Big Island of Hawaii, she is alive and well and I'd like to share a modern legend with you
