What is the Environment?

August 27th 2009 18:27
We are always aware that we have to keep the environment clean and we have to use this and that and do this and that to save our environment.

Do we really know what the environment is?

What is pollution?

What does saving the environment mean?

What does global warming mean and what role does it play in our environment?

What is the ozone layer?

What is preservation of the environment?

What is recycling?

All these questions cannot be covered in depth.

Evangelists have become surprisingly involved in halting global warming and enlightening the people about the dangers of global warming. There is a collective pool of the most influential organizations in saving the environment. With the rising standards of living, we throw most of the things we buy and there is an increase in the quantity of solid waste which is thrown and left in dumping grounds. Though we can recycle most of the things we use, they are not nearly enough to keep the environment clean.

We have chemicals that pollute the soil and in some cases deep mining pools are left open and many poisonous substances will contaminate the soil. We still have to ask, what is the main cause of global warming? There are many activities that produce carbon dioxide like breathing, driving and so many others, while these activities do contribute to global warming; they are not the sole cause. It is believed that if we do not heed the warnings we are getting, we would definitely be in for a destroyed earth.

Air pollution is not easy to define as is water and land pollution, but we have to clean the air and most people and governments have no authority to regulate air quality. Keeping the air clean, is just up to us as individuals, use cars that have low degrees of emissions as they burn less gasoline. What we need to do is create awareness about the environment. This can be done via ecotourism. This is where about uniting conservation, communities and sustainable travel. This is basically done to build environmental awareness and respect.

When it comes to land pollution, we have to be environmentally aware to recycle and not to litter. We have to understand that without trees, we will have to use man made carbon dioxide for other purposes which will increase the cost of living and will have a bigger impact on life and on the manufacture of goods. If we plant trees, they will help to keep the house cool from the sun and help us save on air conditioning.

Think about this, what happens to that farmer who cuts trees for profits and doesn't replant them for profits? So what happens to all the furniture that lies around? Do we have to wait for it to be called an antique for us to buy it? Why not invest in cheaper furniture when there is a surplus of it in the market? All it takes is you. Environment is not all about politics; it's just about you and what you do to contribute to its destruction or preservation.

Interesting opinion but I should mention that a great deal of effort goes into improving air pollution. Just as an example, municipalities will regularly monitor exhaust from buses to make sure emissions are not above local regulations or guidelines.
